Linguistic variation across the globe
Overview
While any Spanish expert would love to be a master of all variants of the language across the globe, it’s impossible.
Understanding what it takes to localize content or communicate in the simplest form of Spanish, however, is possible.
There are anywhere from ten to thirty Spanish dialects across the globe, depending on who you ask. These dialects break down even further based on localization.
Knowing what you don’t know is more important than knowing what you do know. From there, it’s easier to ensure that communication is either localized or simplified to the most effective usage of the language. (This is true in English as well as Spanish, too!)
My background
Fluent in Spanish and English; familiar with multiple dialects of both*
Experienced Spanish instructor at the university, high school, and middle school level
Able to apply Spanish Linguistic principles to communication
Strong understanding of dialect variations and their impact
*Language is a more general term, while dialect references a specific variant of a language. For example, the English language sounds different if you were raised in Toledo, Ohio vs. London, England!
